Strathearne is one of many companies that made ribbon type loudspeakers and went out of business. Technically, the Strathearne drivers I have are magnetic planer drivers, similar in construction to the tweeters used in Magnepan’s lower end speakers. I purchased 4 of their two foot drivers from a fellow that had more spares than he thought he would be needing. Each driver has an opening 19″ tall and about 1″ wide.
The back of the driver, I think. I’ll have to try some experiments removing the metal grills.
There are three rows of magnets and two conductors. The conductors form a “U”. The photo above shows the input terminals, one at each end of the “U”. The conductors are aluminum traces on a thin film. The film is stretched over the entire frame.
The included transformer to convert the very low (< 1 ohm) impedance of the raw ribbon into something amplifier friendly.
